For me it was two particular infestations. I giant water bug infestation (look remarkable lock cockroaches...but worse). And the summer of huge leaping camel crickets. Terrifying. Currently, our house isn't infested. The yard certainly is, but not so much the house. Though...this doesn't mean that all matter of critters don't wander inside...but at least they don't take up permanent residence here. So, the plethora of bugs really has been forcing me to take in an interest in them. Particularly because many of them are rather colorful. Gritty black and brown bugs of doom still bother me, but there seems to be more colorful ones here. The giant dark green beetles that truly have infested the yard disturbed me for awhile...until I noticed that they have trouble flying around the house. They fly full-speed into the side of the house with quite a "thunk," bounce off it a few times before they figure out where the edge of the house is, and fly around it. Kind of an endearing habit.
Ewwwww Buuuugs.
