They say, "If you love something, set it free."
Our precious tumbleweed has finally flown the coop. Yesterday's wind carried it out of the yard. Perhaps even now it is rolling down the street, seeking its fortune. Of course, we were looking for it on the ground. Perhaps it's stuck in a tree like a kitten. If so, I intend to call the fire department to get it down. Or maybe it was on the ground and I just couldn't see it because my glasses are so scratched I wander around seeing the world as if I were wearing goggles full of spoiled milk.
Fare ye well, tumbleweed.

Tumbleweed Roundup
Now a song...
Well here's a tale, boys
About the canyons and the Antelope Hills
And here's to the Tumbleweeds,
the sunsets and the spaces they fill.
We'll wave to the Major
with Weebee and Caddywampus by his side
The Short Shoes are dancing
and the whole gang is getting ready to ride.
[CHORUS]
On a Tumbleweed Roundup
we'll be heading out pretty soon
on a Tumbleweed Roundup
riding by the light of the moon.
So, remember me to your mother
and kiss for me your sister Gwen
The way these boys are riding
I don't expect to pass this way again.
I don't like big cities
I got no use for Cheyenne's boulevards
You'll find me up on Alkali Flat
Listening to Clem's lonely old guitar.
[CHORUS]
We'll ride across the Great Basin...
. . .
. . .
and stand in the shadows they cast.
So, let's get to where we're going
. . .
. . .
leaving the good cattle to their grazin'.
[CHORUS]
Re: Tumbleweed Roundup
And to make it even more surreal, you can only sing songs about tumbleweeds.
