I've seen the Light, and it's angry!

What about the fourth CD, you ask? I suspect NothingGoth was appealing to my appreciation for bombastic symphonic metal. However, I believe the Savior Machine album was also offered as a way to balance the combined weight of moral depravity exerted by 3 Scooter CDs. Savior Machine is an apocalyptic ultra-christian gothic metal band famous for its 4-CD opera interpretation of the book of Revelation.
I have heard the message. And I believe. I exposed myself to all kinds of christian gothic propaganda and came away with this message: The President is the Anti-Christ.
Wait a minute...I already believed that before I was saved by Christians wearing eye-makeup. At least someone sees the truth.
OK. Time to watch that "Weekend" music video with all the naked people again.

"Stop the trouble, open your mind
Is this the life you want to live
Clear up your mind, zebras crossing the street
Loosing control, everything is in your hand
Running around, down the street
Buying some frozen food, put it in the fridge
Turn up the music louder"
Over and out.

First impressions: a lyrical mess of obscure dogma, but interesting nonetheless. I suppose that's typical of doom laden christian bands. Music is quite well composed. However, they suffer from a problem of being too ambitious without enough resources to pull it off. I'd love to hear what these guys could do with a real orchestra. Their compositions are almost too big for a typical rock band alone. Which in itself is quite impressive. Man, that guy can sing. I have the same impression of "too much" though. That guy's voice belongs in an opera, it's bigger than the rest of the band can support with its sound. On some songs, however, he seems to pull back and let his voice become another instrument sharing the stage with the other performers. I'd say those songs stand out and are quite good. But with a few more listens I'll probably get used to the guy's voice and the way its mixed, enough to like most of the songs. I'm curious to hear how they've grown, particularly that 4 disc opus about the end of the world.
Hey, if you like orchestral metal, I really ought to let you borrow a Lacrimosa CD or two--an orchestral metal band that has enough commercial success (in europe, of course...never in the USA...bah!) to actually use real orchestras in their music.
