Once upon a time, my crazy pagan goth wife was a nanny. No, she didn't spend 24-7 with an infant. She was basically a live-in mother's helper. The family she lived with was small: Elsinor and her 12-year old daughter, Theodora.

Now, this family is delightful. Theodora is now 16, of course, but was informed today that she'll always be twelve in my wife's eyes. This thrilled her, as you can all imagine. Fortunately, she's well aware of just how evil my wife is and didn't take it to heart.

For the past few weeks, Elsinor has been asking my wife for holiday gift ideas. Finally, the evil one forwarded her my Amazon wish list.

I usually only use that as my own personal shopping list. Now I know why the wife requested I cull it last month.

Well, tonight was the annual Nannies Party. Another former nanny and her husband were in attendance. It's a small group, but many of Theodora's former role models have moved back to their home countries or out of the local area.

My beloved wife unwrapped a copy of the sountrack to Wim Wender's film, Wings of Desire. She was thrilled (as was I, feeling that Nick Cave is to die for).

Then I unwrapped a small, flat package.

Joy of joys, it was the one thing my heart desires above all else.

Yes. I now own The Best of Godzilla: 1954-1975 Original Film Sountracks. Most of this music comes from the beautiful mind of the renowned Akira Ifukube. There are other highly-esteemed composers represented, of course: Masaru Satoh, Yuji Koseki, Kunio Miyauchi, Riichiroh Manabe, and (of course) Neil Norman and his Cosmic Orchestra. Akira Ifukube, however, is my own personal deity. He is amazing.

May his memory be forever honored.
