The Strathmore Music Center is a lovely venue.

Now that I've seen Brendan Perry live, I have a new appreciation for him. I've always thought he was cool, but hearing his voice live was a great experience. And he can play every instrument on stage...and there were a lot! (Including a hurdy gurdy, which did nothing to diminish my wife's unholy desire to possess one) I have a newfound and even greater (if that's possible) respect for him.

Lisa Gerrard is from another planet. Her voice is the sound of the music of the spheres. And she can sing the blues. "Hymn for the Fallen" is a great song (and unusual for Dead Can Dance). It's not on any of their albums, so I ordered the live recording just to hear that again.

Was that the last song she sang, where it was just she and the piano and guitar? I hadn't heard that before. Actually, there was a bunch of stuff that I wasn't familiar with, but I haven't heard all of their independent work.

Yes, "Hymn to the Fallen" was the last song. I've seen the title listed on several set lists from other shows. Yeah, there were several songs I didn't recognize. They have been working on new songs, several of which they performed, but I haven't heard if the rumors are true that they might release another album. I'm pretty sure everything Brendan sang on was officially a Dead Can Dance song, but some of Lisa's solo pieces might have been from her indpendent work.

They didn't record the New York show, did they? I don't think they got the rights to do so. I wish they had, because I'd love to hear the difference with a live orchestra.

No, unfortunately, they didn't record in New York. I had a mental hiccup when I saw October 10th was available "That's it, that's the show!" but no. I think I remember hearing that they were going to be performing in Los Angeles with the LA philharmonic, so maybe they will get the rights to that. I don't know if it's the venue that needs to give permission, or if in fact the use of an orchestra means that they won't be recording the show.

I have no idea what the case is with DCD, but some venues want distribution rights/royalties for live recordings, so some bands will not record shows in those locations. Heck, Neubauten boycotts (or would like to) ClearChannel because of it.
